UFC 252 has seen many on the edge of their seats at the Apex in Las Vegas. It started with some impressive bouts on the prelim card until the attention was on the likes of Sean O’Malley, Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic.

Highlights:

It centered UFC 252 around its major event, But this was not the only highlight. Marlon “Chito” Vera surprised Sean O’Malley with “Sugar,” staking his claim to bantamweight contention. The loss cost its undefeated run to O’Malley. Following an opening-round knee injury, he never was the same, negating all its speed and stamina.

Another highlight was the performance of Jairzinho Rozenstruik who regained his swagger against Junior dos Santos with a TKO victory. It is an especially serious loss for dos Santos that this is his 3rd consecutive defeat. However, the win elevates Rozenstruik into the top five of the heavyweight division.

Daniel Pineda marked his UFC debut with a TKO win over Herbert Burns after six years away from the Octagon and bantamweight Merab Dvalishvili opened the card with an unanimous decision against John Dodson.

There was no crowd in the stadium. During the pandemic UFC hasn’t missed a beat and has continued to run some of its most successful shows over the past few years. But no doubt a crowd packed and crazed would add another dimension to the epic trilogy. White said UFC will return to Fight Island at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

The trilogy is in full swing.

For the 2nd time in three fights, Stipe Miocic beat Daniel Cormier defending his Heavyweight Championship in a phenomenal five-round bout at the UFC 252 key event.

At the end of the 2nd and 3rd rounds, the two key moments happened. Miocic tagged Cormier at the end of the second round, with a flurry of fists. A vicious series that would have ended the fight if the bell had not saved Cormier.

The 3rd round ended with Cormier poking in the eye, missing out on by the referee Mark Goddard. It hit Miocic in the eye even in the opening round. However, Cormier took a finger in his left eye. Then it hurt a lot.

The 41-year-old Cormier seems to be a very improbable prospect at the end of his fighting career, with a rematch for the title. Miocic now dominates the heavyweight division, while Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou was nearby to hungry challengers.

Vera, who took his 10th win at the UFC, deserves credit for finishing the fight with hard elbows after O’Malley went down, but some form of injury compromised the bout to O’Malley’s right leg early on. O’Malley, who had previously undergoes a foot injury, carted away from the Octagon.
