PM Modi on Wednesday shared a video of the famous Sun Temple of Modhera, which is in Mehsana, Gujarat. He said that during the rainy season, this temple gives a wonderful and grand shade. In this video, the sun temple bathed in rain looks amazing. The temple is on the banks of Pushpapati river in Modhera village of Mehsana district of Gujarat, and an excellent specimen of architecture. It is one of the major tourist places of Gujarat and is also a testimony to the glory of ancient Gujarat.
The temple built in 1026 A.D.:
It depicts many mythologies in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple by carving on the walls. Like other famous sun temples, this temple also divided into three parts. Ongoing down in the kund, there are stairs and some small temples.
Did not use lime in the temple:
Presenting an excellent example of architecture, this temple is world famous. The specialty of the temple is that lime has not used in the construction of this temple. This temple built in two parts by Bhimdev. The first part was the sanctum sanctorum and the second sabhamandapa. There is an enormous tank next to the sabhamandap, which people know by the name of Suryakund or Ramkund.
Khajuraho-like carvings are also present:
Many pillars are present inside the temple. Ramayana and Mahabharata paints are there. When we see these pillars from below, then its look around from octagonal and upward.
We also know this famous temple as Khajuraho of Gujarat. Because there is a Khajuraho like carving on the rocks of the temple.
This is the mythological importance of the temple:
Earlier the area around the Sun Temple known as Dharmarnya. After Ravana, Lord Rama came to Dharmarnya to get rid of Brahmacharta. He performed havan and worshiped. Here Lord Rama also created and named a city as Modhera. Also, where Lord Rama had done the havan, the Sun Temple has established there.
Worship not done in the temple:
There is no worship in the world famous Sun Temple because its demolished by Alauddin Khalji. In addition, the gold idol of Lord Surya and the treasure kept in the sanctum sanctorum also looted.
