On Sunday, 10 members of Brazil team Goias were reported Covid-19 positive. Finally, it results in a last-minute postponement of the game.

As a part of the first weekend of play in the Brazilian football season. The team is ready for a face-off against the Sao Paulo FC, though, with no fans present. The move to postpone the game is based on a decision of the Superior Sports Court for Football. The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) finally approved it.

Until the court’s decision was announced that the two teams were in complete limbo just minutes before the scheduled starting time. The Sao Paulo FC players had already warmed up at the pitch. “10 of our 23 players tested positive. Unfortunately, we only got the results today,” Goias president Marcelo Almeida told.

8 of the 10 players were regular starters, according to local media in Brazil. Sao Paulo FC said that they were in favour of holding up the game, saying on Twitter “Nothing is more important than staying healthy.”

Brazil football championships

Brazil starts this season on Saturday. Because of COVID-19, the season lags three months behind. Each player has to test 72 hours before the match according to the new protocol made by the CBF.

The last-minute suspension was yet another disappointment during the opening weekend of the season. It postpones 3 of the first 10 games because of a fixture congestion caused by the state leagues ending.

They split season into two, with the regional leagues taking place before the national championships.
